So far it has been a kind of working title. When it came to the service providers Cloudwürdig, Innovations On and Switcom, which have formed a family of companies as holdings of the private equity company Nord Holding since last year, Public Cloud Group was occasionally to be read. From today on, the three will officially appear under this umbrella brand. Oliver Schallhorn, CEO of the Public Cloud Group (PCG), reports that the name has emerged as the most suitable in the process of brand finding. Since today is also the group’s website live.

The declared goal of the service providers is to position themselves together as a leading specialist for the North American hyperscalers AWS, Microsoft and Google Cloud. With regard to the planning, construction and operation of cloud and multicloud environments, the Group wants to offer its customers “completely new standards in range and depth from a single source”. Our services include consulting, architectural design, migration, managed services as well as application development and modernization.

Digital Transformation

With its portfolio, PCG is aimed at customers from the medium-sized and enterprise segments, who will accompany you in digitization. “The economy is currently struggling with unprecedented challenges and cannot afford to postpone the digital transformation,” emphasizes Schallhorn. “Here, we support companies in all IT scenarios: from SAP transformation to the cloud and cloud-native application development to the digital workplace and the necessary infrastructures from the public cloud as well as their operation.“ In addition, according to the CEO, a technical focus of the Group will be on cloud security in the future.

PCG currently employs around 150 people, the number of which is expected to roughly double by the end of this year. In addition to the recruitment of specialist personnel, further acquisitions are planned, through which the Group would like to expand its expertise in special fields. Cloudwürdig, based in Magstadt near Stuttgart, Innovations On from Ulm and Switcom from Hamburg, form the competence centers for Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft, respectively. The first two merged in May 2021 under the umbrella of Nord Holding. Switcom joined in November 2021.

The service provider Di-On also belongs to the PCG.Solutions from Burgau near Günzburg, which was acquired by Innovations On in autumn 2020 and which focuses on cloud-native software development. Personnel and expertise are also to be expanded in this area. The headquarters of the group will be in Um from July. In addition, it has other locations in Berlin, Cologne and Linz. Together, the service providers reach 500 customers, including companies such as Allianz, Burgerking, Flaconi, Generali, Hellofresh, Klassikradio, Linde, McDonalds, Myposter or Viessmann,

Consistent focus

According to Schallhorn, what distinguishes PCG is its consistent focus on the cloud. Even in hybrid scenarios, the service providers will not deal with on-premises IT, but will “only focus on the rapidly growing part that can take place with our customers in the public cloud”.

According to the long-time system house manager, cloud is the “next evolutionary stage of corporate IT”, which will replace existing data centers and application landscapes. He points to a recent study by Gartner, according to which companies will spend a larger proportion of their IT budget on cloud in 2025 for the first time than on traditional IT.

Schallhorn is aware that not only technological aspects play a role in this transformation. That is why PCG is also investing in competencies in overarching topics such as change management that affect customers on their journey to the cloud. Internally, the structured development of a common culture and consistent processes that should contribute to sustainable corporate development is currently on the agenda.

In addition, sustainability is an aspect that PCG is working on intensively, as Schallhorn continues: “We are making corporate IT fit for the future.” In the course of this, the group also wants to make a contribution to a future worth living for all”. This is “a matter of common sense”. For example, the service providers create a sustainability report, introduce a software for reporting corporate social responsibility (CSR) and balance their CO2 footprint.

The PCG management team also includes Maike Fesenmeier (Head of Operations), Mark Heinzius (Head of Managed Services), Vanessa Vollrath (Head of People &Culture), Alina Moser (Head of Marketing &Communications), Benny Woletz (Managing Director Cloudwürdig, Di-On.Solutions), Dagmar Ziegler, Tom Simon (both Managing Director Innovations On), Michael Poss (CEO Switcom) and Nick Delefski (Managing Director Switcom).

According to scientists, young people have a higher tolerance for uncertainty and are therefore more willing to take unknown risks.
