Channel Focus: Virtual Datacenter Virtual data centers in the cloud
With their platforms, the hyperscalers have consistently implemented the idea of a software-defined data center. This opens up new possibilities for users in terms of agility, scalability and automation that were hardly conceivable in the client-server world.

Cloud platforms are virtual building blocks: the hyperscalers provide a variety of servers of different performance classes and storage options, network and security services as well as monitoring and management tools. From these infrastructure components, customers can build virtual data centers without needing a single piece of hardware. The benefits for users in terms of agility, scalability and automation are immense.
However, architectures in the cloud differ from those in the physical world – as do the operating concepts. This has huge potential for service providers. In addition to services such as the design and construction of cloud environments, migration of workloads, support during operation or the modernization of applications, the virtual data center creates a great need for consulting. After all, the move to the cloud means a cultural change for most companies, which is accompanied by the development of new skills, the introduction of new approaches and the adaptation of IT governance.
In Issue 9 / 2022, the channel Fokus der IT-BUSINESS dealt with the opportunities and challenges that the virtual Data Center offers for system houses and MSPs. All contributions as well as the results of our channel survey can be found on our microsite on the topic.
