Buy a 9 Euro ticket in the DB Navigator – it’s that easy in the train app

You can buy the 9 Euro ticket via the train app and use it to travel “for free” on local transport nationwide from June 1, 2022. How this works, I tried directly. But there is a small catch.

Buy a 9 Euro ticket in the train app

As announced by many transport companies, you can buy the 9 Euro ticket since May 23, 2022. Of course, the train app is particularly convenient. The ticket can be bought quickly and easily there. Small disadvantage? You must have a train account to really book the ticket. That’s exactly what I did, because, like probably many others, I want to take advantage of the opportunity to travel more by public transport and leave the car more often. But the ticket is also suitable for one or the other spontaneous city trip.

Go to the 9-Euro ticket at Deutsche Bahn

So how does the purchase via the Bahn app work?

Of course, you must have the Bahn Navigator app installed. Available for free download with Android, iOS and Huawei for all major platforms:

Once you have installed the app on your smartphone, you can go to the bottom see the note on the 9-Euro-Ticket on the homepage:

If you go to this entry, you have to log in with your Bahn account or create an account. If you have done this, you can select in the next window, for which month you want to buy the 9 Euro ticket.

In the second step, you can choose for which month you want to buy the 9 Euro ticket. (Image source: GIGA)

If you have decided on the month, then go to “Book a ticket”. Although you have logged in, you can now decide whether you want to buy the ticket booking for you or another person want. For example, for your partner or your children. From the age of 6, children need their own 9 Euro ticket if they want to ride. Now it’s time to pay:

In the app you can between PayPal, giropay and credit card as a payment method select. I chose PayPal. Depending on the payment method, you will be guided through the payment process. For me it was the change to the PayPal website, where I had to log in to confirm the payment. After that, the summary will be displayed:

Here you get again all important information is displayed. With a press on “Buy now” the purchase process is completed.

If you open the app, the booked 9 Euro ticket for the month of June 2022 will be displayed directly to you. It is only valid in conjunction with a valid identification document such as the identity card. You can show this ticket anywhere. I, for example, also with us on the bus in the small town. If you want, you can Buy your ticket directly for July and August 2022.

Note: You will also receive the 9 Euro ticket from the train by e-mail as a PDF document. You can print this out and take it with you if the mobile phone gets weak.

What you need to know about the 9 Euro ticket:

9-Euro ticket: you can buy almost anywhere

From 23 May 2022 you can buy the 9 Euro ticket almost everywhere. If you do not want to register in the train app (look at Deutsche Bahn), then you can make the purchase via the website. There it works even without registration as a guest. Alternatively, you can also go to the vending machines on the platform. Have fun commuting and traveling! And always stay nice and easy, even if the trains and buses will get a little fuller in the next three months.
